World War II, 1942-1943

Aug.10- I am officially the tank driver
for the staff sergeant in our platoon
now. It may mean something more
yet so I have my fingers crossed.

Aug. 12- another sixty miles driving
and I am still the staff sergeants
driver so I must have done pretty
good.

Aug. 12- Harry in the woods of
North Carolina and all bit up
with giggers [may mean
chiggers] - have a new crop
myself since last night- I slept
all rolled up in a netting tent
that only kept the flies and
mosquitos away. The giggers
are so small they can get
through anything- even my
woolen socks.
