World War II, 1942-1943

Sept. 21- 5 mi from Newton, Texas. Writing now by this light of a
Pine-knot fire- the moon is almost full and all that is missing is my
beloved. Spent a quite day watching the tank.
Sept. 24- In route to Camp Chaffee. We loaded up at 5 a.m. and
had breakfast by the railroad this morning. By tomorrow nite we
should be in camp and it sure will look good after living in the
woods,
There is talk of us going to Indio, Cal. for desert training.
We have guard duty on the flat ears tonite and I am Corporal of the
guard. that means I have to keep the other fellows awake as well
as myself.
